GADSDEN, Ala. (WBRC) – The Gadsden Police Department is trying to solve hiring problems affecting departments across the state and country. After reviewing the recruitment process, the Gadsden Police Department swore in ten new recruits to join the family.
“Yes, I may have led the initiative, but it wasn’t just me. There is a whole team of people behind me,” said officer Abdul Unlu.
A recruitment campaign led by officer Abdul Unlu. The Gadsden Police Department is growing again.
“We recently graduated seven of our first class of applicants that I worked with, and 10 of them are currently preparing to enter the North East Alabama Police Academy in January,” Unlu said.
New recruit Lanfeius Howard says he chose GPD because of their professionalism and the way they teach their officers.
“They’ll make sure you’re ready. Everything is done step by step, day by day. They teach us the right way, which means always respecting each other,” Howard said.
Capt. Jonathan Alred says he has been with the force for 29 years and this year has been rewarding with the addition of new recruits, but especially with the growth of the department.
“Maintaining that standard going forward is just the leadership we have. We offer in-depth training on top of what the academy offers. Very thorough, very in-depth detailed training,” said Captain Alred.
Officer Abdul Unlu says he is happy with the new recruitment process, but would like to see more women join the Gadsden Police Department.
